So the signs are that along with becoming a director of the club, Steve McCallions’ company ZLX is about to become the new stadium sponsors. But what happened to Foys’ 5 year deal. You may well ask. In 2019 it was announced that Accies or rather Mcgoofeys stadium company had handed the naming rights of the stadium to Foys, a medical regenerative company The deal was for 5 years till 2024 and worth £750k.
We were told
“Foy’s wellness clinic premises will also be built on ground at Hamilton Accies, creating up to 20 new jobs in the area.”
“In addition to this the new sponsors Foy’s, who are part of WSA Holdings Ltd, have also consented to build a new TV gantry and architects have to be engaged in the near future.”
“Unbelievably, their plans also include the building of a new research and wellness centre at the stadium. This will replace the lapsed consent for the 21 residential houses initially planned and could also create up to 20 jobs for the local area.”
So what did we get? Unbelievably no clinic ever emerged, no new tv gantry, and no new media centre that Marcus was boasting about. in fact the only income that appears to have come the stadium companies way is the rental for 2 offices in the stadium which over nearly 3 years comes no where near 750k.
No doubt we will be told ZLX’S deal is worth 6 figures blah blah but as usual it’s all smoke and mirrors and we will never know how much the naming rights have been given away for. I’ll be interested to see if McCallions’ company ends up renting office space at the stadium. Like Foys that’s maybe the only money that comes our way and not to the club but the stadium company.
