If the club was granted the funds for a statue to be built outside NDP, who do you reckon from the clubs history or present would be the most deserving of the honour?

Fergie. He was a figure that everyone knew, loved the club for decades, and to many outsiders, he WAS Hamilton Accies.

It wouldn't say much for our history if our statue was of a fan famous for his foul mouth, much as I loved Fergie. We'd be a laughing stock. John Brogan for me. Hamilton boy and scored 29 goals when we won the league in 85/86.

Being quite young I can't see past anyone other than Alex Neil. 10 years with us, one of our best players in that time and a terrific manager. Mental to think that in under 3 years he transformed us from fighting the relegation play-offs in the Championship to challenging for Europe.

If we go back in history there are at least 3 individuals who would be worth a statue.
1 James Blacklock, rector of Hamilton Academy who is described as the driving force behind the establishment of the club in 1874. Celtic have their founder as a statue so why not us?

2 Davie Wilson who scored 246 league goals in 11 seasons prior to the Second World War, leading to him being described as the club's best ever player, including 34 goals in season 36 -37. Still a record for accies for the highest ever total in a single season ?

3 Bobby Reid who earned the nickname the Flying Scotsman after we sold him to Brentford and who returned to the club in the 1960’s as physio and who I remember as kitman in the 1980’s

Think Bobby might have been kit-man in the late 80's.

Son was mascot for a game, where he had been playing BB football in the morning in teeming rain and mud, and his boots were still not dry when we got into the home dressing room at 2pm. Bobby looked at the mascot's boots, said kindly to an awestruck 8 year old " a good professional footballer always goes on with clean boots". When it was explained that there had been barely time to clean up son before grabbing lunch and driving to Douglas Park, Bobby then said " that puts a different picture on it" He then took son's boots away, somehow dried, then cleaned and polished them and returned them just in time to go out with the team for the warm-up before the game. A true gentleman and his actions made for a memorable day for both son and father.

At the old gound we did have 'The Bobby Reid Suite' in the 'new' stand extension, but were there to be a statue, who better than one of the three suggested, from the Rector, David Wilson or Bobby Reid.

Surprised nobody has mentioned McCarthy or Mcarthur, especially McCarthy the transfer fees he has generated for the club.

Would Bobby Shearer Snr be a good shout for a statute...on behalf of all the work, his family did for Accies on a weekly basis.

My father reminds me of the time when Accies were on TV for a couple of weeks due to being one of the few football grounds playable during a winter period, apparently, this was due to Mr Shearer.
