McKinnon, a liability we don't need?

Postby Gaspode » Sat Oct 17, 2015 7:15 pm

Do we really need this thug in our team? I like players with a bit of an edge to their game, but they've got to be able to contribute a bit more than just physicality. In my opinion he is a poor footballer and it's time to punt him. Would much rather see young Docherty in there than this waste of space.

A disgrace today and a terrible example to our younger players. There was absolutely no need for him to get involved but for some reason he decides to kick someone. If it was done on the street he'd have got arrested if not his head kicked in. Nothing but neddish behaviour. Like gaspode says, we all like a player with a bit dig and fight about them but they need to know how to control it. Darian doesn't or can't. He's almost a red card in every game he plays and a lengthy spell on the sidelines is required or possibly even out of the club if he can't learn. He needs to realise this is the SPFL he isn't in the juniors anymore.

He can play all right but is sometimes a poor pro with his behaviour. Mind you Alex Neil, great manager though he was, had that weakness.

He needs to sort it out once and for all.

Alex Neil cannot be compared to MacKinnon. Whilst Neil's temper let him down at time he was a gifted and influential player for us. MacKinnon is neither. The guy is a ticking timebomb every time he plays. This may be worth persisting with if he had an ounce of Neil's talent. He does not.

Canning seemed annoyed and pointed at him to get down the tunnel. Hopefully he sees 'Dazza' for what he is and he doesn't re-emerge!

It's time for Docherty to take MacKinnon's place permanently.

Darian is a useful squad player - would still rather him than Turner at this point - but he has that switch as we saw yesterday that will cost us points which as a senior member of the squad he should be experienced enough to not activate.

Precisely! Apart from being seen to be nurturing our younger players, Docherty has played well when he has come on, and this is exactly the opportunity to put him in on a permanent basis. The James Gang were already playing first team football by the same point, albeit Championship and not SPL, but as all others have said, McKinnon will cost us more points in the season ahead. He is probably already a ' marked man' as far as our Referee's are concerned and the slightest of indiscretions will have him yellow/red carded sooner than most.

This is the time for Martin Canning to show that he has the balls to take the sensible decision for both the team and the individual, once the suspension period has finished.

If he was a decent player you could possibly put up with his frequent red mists but his use of the ball is limited and I agree he can be considered a liability, something other clubs and their senior pros will target.

It disappoints me that a person like MacKinnon has played over a hundred first team games for our club. To have such a character as a senior player in the dressing room can't be positive, although we have had more than our fair share of disagreeable personalities in and around the club for a long time.
