Total dis-interest in the League Cup Games?

Postby porcupine » Wed Jul 17, 2024 10:00 pm

A lack of posts, says it all.

0-0 against the Bino's and we can't even win on penalties?

Cue the 1997 Labour Win song

I was interested until I saw those black shorts and I witnessed the half time "entertainment" lol Could be a loooooong season boys and girls!

In all seriousness though, it's criminal how much apathy the club has for a national competition, I don't blame anyone for giving these games a miss.

Don't think we can pass judgement on the squad untill a few league games have been played. Fair bit of anti Rankin shouts last night already though.

Could be an interesting forum tomorrow night!!!

I’d just returned from holiday and wasn’t that interested in the game to be honest. The competition isn’t taken seriously by us, or at least, it doesn’t seem to be.

We had 118 fans at Stranraer and not one of them has anything to say about the game.

Sadly, just another cup competition where we hardly ever get beyond the initial stages. Think we use it as pre-season experiments with team selection. Wasn't there myself so nothing to add as to who/how performed today.

Decent performance, particularly the 2nd half. Another clean sheet and a couple of good goals.
A win and a draw from our last 2 games would see us through I think. Asking a lot though.

Always feel moving the league cup games was a bit of a shiter. Clubs trying to balance getting their squad fit for next season and trying to qualify to the knockouts. Really difficult to balance if you’ve signed a few new bodies.

Thought it was a decent watch considering the conditions, that it is early in the season and there has been a few changes to the squad. I feel we are still a wee bit slow going forward but signs that things could get better.

OK there may not have been a lot of us down at the game but I thought the support were vocal and got behind the team. I liked that a few of the newer signings came over to applaud the fans at the end and seemed to appreciate the support they recieved. Some good banter with Dean Lyness who seemed to enjoy it and is becoming a wee bit of a cult figure. Thought he made two or three decent saves too. (There are decent highlights posted over in the P&B thread BTW.)

I'm as guilty as others on here for having a moan about things. However, maybe if some of the frequent moaners attended more games they would be a bit more balanced? Not a dig at anyone and i recognise there are many factors that influence if you attend games or not,. I don't think attending every game makes you a super fan or anything by the way and everyone invested in the clubs view are equally valid.

Aye the crowd was small yesterday and the game has not generated much comments on Accies World. Can't speak for others, but I didnt post untill now as I made a weekend of it, went out after the game and had a bit of a lie in this morning, Not due to apathy for the game at all, far from it.

The games are not always brilliant,. They are the main focus of the weekend but if you build other stuff around the game (especially away ones) you get more out of it surely.

You usually need nine ponts to have any chance of progressing and even then, nine points wasn't enough for us and two others last year. Unless this year ends up being a weird one, anything other than two more wins and we are out.

There is a decent highlights package on Pie and Bovril. Good quality filming and it lasts around 16 minutes. A team in bottom tier showing how things should be done, well done Stranraer

Our 3rd goal was a bit of a comedy of errors,Lyness had a couple of decent saves and out first goal was well worked. Still making a lot of basic errors though which we need to stop doing or we will get punished by better teams

Yeah my bad, for some reason I thought top 2 went through.

Team played well yesterday with Bradley, Lyness(couple of good saves), McGinty and Henderson the best performers.

Weather probably the worst ever for a July game I may add.

Should be more of a test tomorrow night. Hopefully boys will be up for it and go for the win. What ever the result (I share the views of most and think we left ourselves too much to do by not beating Stirling), if we have a real go I'd be reasonably happy.

I thought it was a good effort tonight from the team.
The new players are starting to gel and the patterns of play have been improving.
I thought a draw would have been a fair result.
The game exposed were we are short, which we all know is in defence, Fergus is a massive loss for us. Hopefully we can get one or two signings in defence if there is any budget left.

Agree there are some signs of improvement. Thought we looked a lot more positive and direct on the ball. Little bit worrying that we still produce so little shots on target, which was a constant problem last season. Think the new signings will help address this though.

Defense wise, not much we could do about the first County goal but the second goal looked avoidable to say the least.

A good showing last night against a decent premiership side.

A very well taken goal by Shaw after a poor pass from the county defender. Then either a wonder goal or a fluke depending on how you look at it from county before we lose another only a few minutes later. A draw probably would have been fair but that’s football.

Most significant for me was we ended with four different strikers/ attackers than the four we started with but didn’t significantly (or possibly at all) weaken the attack. I seen on twitter someone listed our striker options last time we were in championship compared to now. Tehei, Ashley-seal and Winter. Compared to Shaw, Toderov and O’Hara. Night and day.

Bradley, McGinty and Shaw all
Impressive of the new boys. O’Connor showed flashes when he came on.

Keep this momentum building and play like we did and we won’t be far away this season.

Both goalies had very little to do last night. County's keeper kept them in the game with one shot pushed away late.
Their first goal was un-saveable with the bicycle kick. Their second was poor overall defending at the stramash.
Shaw took his goal very well for us, so overall, look to have strength in depth to be up the league table, rather than be at the foot. Thought our new centre half looked very strong.

All very encouraging.

In Ben's after match interview with Rankin, they bill Saturday as a must win. There is no possible combination of results that would see us through, seven points is never enough. Just in case anyone is in any doubt, this will be £14 and a fair journey to watch a pre-season friendly.

I would hope they are treating the game as a must win to build on the positive momentum from the Ross County game and as preparation going into a vital first home game of the league campaign? (Which will be a big test).

Unfortunately I can't be there due to other commitments but would have liked to have gone as things are starting to come together (going forward anyway)

Yes, never a chance to progress with a loss and a drawn game where we loose the bonus. It’s academical on Saturday other than a positive performance, even with a win, which is unlikely. Strong league performancs with points on the board is what we need to see from now on.
